Determining When To Repair an Air Conditioner

On 13/02/2018 by rianti

Buying an air-conditioning unit for your home is a large investment. However, it is an investment that most people are willing to make because they understand that it will lead to a more comfortable, more inviting environment in their home, especially during the hot summer months.

When a person first purchases an air conditioner, they expect it to work for some time without any problems. However, once your air-conditioner reaches 10 or 15 years old, it can start to show signs of wear and tear. At first, some of the problems that need to be fixed may be minor in nature. You may need to spend a couple of hundred dollars to get them repaired. However, as time goes on and as problems start to cascade, you may find yourself getting quotes of thousands of dollars to repair your unit. So then the question becomes, when is it time to replace your air-conditioner?

One of the most important factors to consider when determining when to replace your air-conditioner is the age of your unit. Some professionals recommend using the $5,000 rule. This is where you take the age of your unit and then you multiply that by the cost of the repair. If the cost of the repair equals more than five grand, the unit should be replaced. For example, if your unit is 10 years old and the repair is going to cost $200, then $200 multiplied by 10 is $2,000. So the repair is worthwhile. However, if your unit is 10 years old and the repair is going to cost $600, then 10 multiplied by $600 equals $6,000. The repair is no longer worth it. What this equation does is help you to figure out the age of the unit versus the amount of money that you are going to be investing in it to determine if it’s better to take the plunge and replace the unit or if a simple repair is needed.

When talking with an air conditioning installation Bradenton company, it is important to ask all the questions that you want about the unit you’re going to have installed as well as the installation process. The more informed you are about the process, the happier you’re going to be with the unit that you get or with the repair process that you have done.

There’s no denying that have any functioning AC unit is a must. Determining when to purchase a new unit or when to invest in repairing your existing unit is a decision that merits consideration.
